Concrete Slab poured, framing begun 2/20-24/12

Lots going on here this week. On Monday framing was begun, the lower level is being raised.  On Tuesday two concrete trucks were here and the crew poured and smoothed the concrete slab.  Things are taking shape!  Bella and Grey were here too, and were busy in their sand pile, pulling up buried roots.  Floor joists arrived on Wed, and the carpenters have been building the deck as well as the main floors of the house. By Friday we have the lower level framed, and the upperlevel is beginning to take shape.  (lots of photos!)

This shows the framing for two windows on the side of Bill's office.  We will be using ones that we saved when the Carolina Room was removed.

Tuesday...Pouring concrete to form the step into the house on the lower level.




Beginning the concrete for the slab.  They are working on the ledge which will run across the side of the house.the ledge will be used as a storage area.



Wed, Floor Joists arrive, carpenters begin assembly of 2nd floor.



Our view will be great when the wall and these sliding glass doors are gone!

What will the addition look like?

I've had a few people ask to see what the addition will look like when completed. Here are some sketches by Bill to show the interior and exterior views.  (In case your interested, he uses a computer program called "sketch-up" for this style of drawing)

This shows the floor plan. The dining room and kitchen are being renovated, the livingroom, deck, and bedroom are to be added.  the space next to the bedroom will be the master bath and closets.

Brick Columns will support the deck.



Making good progress.  We are ready to have the concrete slab poured next week.  The plumbers were here putting in the necessary pipes that will be beneath the slab.  The ground received a "pre-construction" termite treatment.  Preparations have been made to be ready for framing.  The lumber has been delivered!

Also--moved out of back bedroom and demo has begun there.  We still have the kitchen and livingroom for a few more weeks.

February 12, 2012

This past week we have gone back to winter temperatures--brrr.  But progress continues.  The foundation walls have been built, and the brick columns that will support the porch/deck are in place. Our Live Oak tree has been planted near the dock.

Bella and Grey were down here this past weekend and had alot of fun playing in the big pile of sand that was created when the digging occurred.

Feb 9, 2012--Live Oak arrives!

For Christmas last year, Bill and I decided that we wanted to get a "Live Oak" that would be planted down by the lake.  It has arrived and has been planted.  We decided to get one that would be substantial to begin with, around 20 feet tall.  It needs to be watered regularly for awhile, but should be able to grow well in our sandy soil near the lake.  It is sure to be a pleasant shady spot to be near in the summer!

It's been a beautiful, sunny week.  Highs near 70 several days!  The inspector has OK'd all of the footings . The Concrete block and Bricks have been delivered.  We are ready to start construction!
