Drywall done!

Last week was the most dusty, but it is done!   Bill helped out by cleaning and vacuuming as the drywall was hung, mudded, and sanded

The wood floors have been laid.  The flooring in the dining room and kitchen run in the same direction.

The rosewood flooring looks beautiful.  It has been laid in the diningroom, livingroom and kitchen.


The flooring in the living room is running perpendicular to the way it is running in the dining room

 

There is one darker strip that delineates the boundary of the rooms.

The trim lumber has been delivered and work is now being done. Tile work has begun as well. Next week--painters.

We are getting ready for some fun this summer, we have a new "old" boat.  Looking forward to being able to go for rides, and pull some tubers around.

April 9-14 Insulation, Drywall

This week we completed the insulation.  The deck is almost complete, we keep running out of the special colored screws.  We can use the steps now and have put our table and a couple of chairs on the porch.

We used the same type of decking wood that we had at the house in Cary.  It is called massaranduba, and is very dense, no splinters here!

Drywall was delivered on the 10th, then the dust started flying!  We have blocked off the access from the Kitchen to Maureen's room and the garage side.  On the bedroom side, we can close off the hallway and bedroom doors to keep the dust to a minimum. 



The dry wall has beeen hung, and they are applying the "mud" 




The interior doors were delivered on Saturday, the 14th. 



During the week Juan's carpentry crew built the wall that will become the kitchen peninsula. We have ordered cabinets and are planning to order the granite countertops soon. The drywall crew was here on Saturday applying the mud.  you can see on the far wall the area that was made so that diningroom china cabinet will fit in perfectly.

 The walls were still a little wet on Monday, 16th, so the 2nd coat of the drywall mud will be applied tomorrow, then the sanding of the walls on Wed.  Next up,flooring!

Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012

Today is a beautiful day here at Hale Wai. It is acutally very quiet here today.  Yesterday we had the roofers here banging shingles in place.  Earlier this week the carpenters were here laying plywood on the flooring of the living room to even things up.  The people who add the insulation have been here for a few days, and they should be finishing up by Tuesday. Then we can have the building inspector come again and we should be able to get the drywall hung.


Our Live Oak that we planted a couple of months ago has new leaves and is looking very healthy.

We are getting anxious about getting some other landscaping done, but all in good time. Meanwhile, Bill has improved our view from the porch by trimming some of the branches from the black oak that is near the house.  Eventually we will have a planting area here that steps down with the slope. (our property goes to the pine tree and down to the water to the right of the evergreen in the photo.  That is our neighbor's dock.

We are living in a construction site!

 Last week the we had electricians, carpenters, plumbers, people doing ductwork here working hard for us to get our home done.  We have gotten to the point where we have come through the wall linking the addition to the old part of the house, so we have typar paper acting as a curtain between the construction and the livable spaces.  During the day, I go out the garage to get from the side where my office and kitchen is to the side with the bedrooms, Bill's office, and bathroom.  Fortunately, things are moving along as planned, still hoping to be settled by the end of May.

This wall which was on the side of the old livingroom space is to be removed today.  New wall will be framed to have a place for our dining room cabinet.

The livingroom and dining room are one!  The older portion will be the dining room and will have the 8ft. ceiling, but the addition will have the higher ceiling.  You can see on the right the opening that leads to the master bedroom, and the stairs down to the lower level.  

 Meanwhile, work continues on our deck/porch.  Bill met with the supplier of Phantom Screens and we have made arrangements to use them here.  That way we can have an "open" deck when we want, or a "screened Porch" if the bugs are out.



We have installed a door so that we can go to the porch without needing to open the sliding doors.

Glass sliding doors have been installed.







Kitchen demo has continued as well.  We  have taken down the upper cabinets on the outside wall, and also the ones that were on the sides of the sink and dishwasher.  The cabinets and countertop that were separating the kitchen from the diningroom have been removed as well.





This is gone now!  We have talked to the supplier about our new cabinets, and are now picking out the rest of the appliances too.
